As the second youngest of eight children, Shannon lived a great deal off of the land with her family. Gardening, baking, canning, cooking, farming, woodworking, and sewing was the norm for her growing up. She has continued to carry on these traditions, with her family. Shannon and her husband live on a small farm in St. Croix Falls, WI and love “living off the land” as much as possible. They also homeschool their two daughters. Shannon has a degree in Early Education and 12 years of experience as an Event Planner and Wedding Coordinator. She has a passion for teaching and equipping others with skills to be able to enjoy some of the same things she’s enjoyed over the years.
Mike Donaghue is a lifelong resident of St. Croix Falls WI. He has an Associates degree in Machining from WITC and has worked as a programmer and mold maker for 17 years. Mike also grew up running heavy equipment for his dad’s excavating business. Mike is an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoys gardening, bird watching, woodworking, and exploring the woods for deer sheds and mushrooms. Mike and his wife, Shannon, homeschool their two daughters. Mike is excited to teach others the skills he has learned over the years.
Much of Julie’s favorite times have been spent exploring the woods and waters of the St. Croix River Valley. Her love for creation and kids led her to earn a B.A. in Biology with an Education Certificate at St. Olaf College. She also earned a J.D. at the University of Minnesota Law School and is a member of the Bar. Julie has served as camp counselor, life science teacher, youth director, home school teacher, editor, financial/insurance/legal services agent, musician, and, mostly, mom. She has shared many outdoor adventures and history with her four (now grown) children, and is eager to share more with St. Croix Valley folk!
From a founding member of the Valley Food Co-op in Stillwater, Minnesota, to bringing youth hockey to the St. Croix River Valley, Cindy has made volunteering a part of her life. She is excited to be a part of organizing opportunities for education in the folk tradition to be shared with our local community. Looking forward to new ideas and using successful experiences, she will commit her energy to promote lifelong learning.
Jenny loves being immersed in the worlds of design and civic engagement. With a Masters in Architecture from the University of MN, she has applied her knowledge as an Architectural Designer, a Planning Commissioner for Oak Park Heights, and Picture Person through the Minneapolis Art Institute. Whether it be working with a client or volunteering with children, Jenny seizes teachable moments and thrives on helping facilitate community engagement. She is most excited about engaging the community with the St. Croix Valley Folk School through design thinking and fabrication skills in classes offered for youth and adults, teaching the appreciation of craft and the value of working together.

Aaron is drawn to the small things in life. Whether it be microfishing, foraging for mushrooms, tinkering on machines, or creating projects, he has an appreciation for detail and a fascination with living off of what the land provides. Aaron grew up in Stillwater, MN fishing, hunting and gardening at home (but not always willingly). He has continued to build on his skills and knowledge through trial and error. Spending his entire life exploring woods and water, he wishes to pass his knowledge on to others.
